KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Native plants beautify landscapes and help support Missouri wildlife. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with Missouri Prairie Foundation, will hold a native plant sale from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center in Kansas City. A wide variety of native wildflowers, grasses, sedges, vines, shrubs, trees, and other native plant products will be available for purchase from a variety of Grow Native! vendors.
“The Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center uses native plants and trees on its landscape to help citizens understand the value of incorporating natives into their own properties,” said Steve Jacobsen, assistant nature center manager and volunteer coordinator at the Discovery Center.
Native plant vendors at this event include City Roots Nursery, Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Ozark Soul, and Sow Wild Natives. Vendor Leaf & Sky will offer native-plant-inspired home goods, native bee houses, and related products.
Some vendors accept cash, check, or credit cards; some only accept cash or checks. Vendors will donate a portion of their sale proceeds to benefit the conservation work of the Missouri Prairie Foundation. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own crates or boxes to transport their plants home. Volunteers will be available to help load plants into vehicles.
Some vendors are accepting pre-orders. Visit https://grownative.org/event/kansas-city-native-plant-sale-anita-b-gorman-conservation-discovery-center/ for pre-order details.
